Ok, we have left George and Carole's estate and are making our way down
south in California. We drove approximately 220 miles today and
arrived in a Flying J in Lodi, Ca. We fueled up, dumped the
tanks, cleaned the windshield, checked the oil, and went down the road
about 5 miles to a Wal Mart for a couple of things. By the way,
looking at our trusty Wal Mart road atlas - (they list all the Wal
Marts in the US) - none of them in California are supercenters. Go
figure. Anyway, after getting a couple of things there, we found
a grocery store across the street, for a couple of more items, and then
headed back to the Flying J that we had fueled at. When I asked
the manager if they allow overnight rv parking, she said, "absolutely",
just don't park with the trucks. We have separate rv parking on
the other side, where it will be quieter for you. We thanked her
and looked around the store a little, then headed back to the rv.
The thermometer showed a healthy 97 outside, and it was not in the
sun. Fortunately, we started the generator when we arrived at the
Flying J the first time, so by now it was comfortable inside.
What a big change from life on the coast, where the temp. never seems
to break 75. Remember, that this is the middle of July.
Parked 2 places away from us is a "Tradewinds" rv - 40' diesel pusher
made by National Rv. Jacks down, tv antenna up, but no slides out
- just the way it should be done. They are staying the night
also. I'll tell ya, it's great. No charge for a place to
park to sleep overnight - (don't need the hookups - that's why they
call them self contained) - never mind the $87.00 I just spent for gas
for this rig. Oh well, I'd would have had to buy gas
anyway. At least the sleeping is free.By the way, we have
traveled 4256 miles since we left home on July 5th. Highest price
for gas so far has been $2.279 per gallon in Ca. and the cheapest has
been $1.779 per gallon in Wyoming. Tomorrow, we plan to head down
I 5 and stop at Bakersfield, Ca. - at - you guessed it - another Flying
J. If all works out - maybe we will tour the Rexhall motor home
factory on Tuesday. Not sure yet - will have to see how it
goes. I will try to call them tomorrow and find out the
particulars. If not, we will just continue on to the Hoover Dam
on Tuesday. Don't think I will upload any pictures tonight.
I don't have that many yet. Maybe tomorrow. It's about
bedtime, so I must upload this and relax a little and then head for
bed. Later...... |
