"Doing things Differently"

07-31-04

Woke up this morning to about 65 degrees this morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico in a Flying J parking lot.  Had the best rv spot in the place - that means it was fairly level.  By the way, yesterday, the 30th, we left Gallup, New Mexico and headed east on I 40.  We took a turn south east alone route 6 I think.  We drove 24 miles along a stretch of 2 lane road and guess what we saw.  1 house and 2 house trailers.  That's it.  Wasn't anything else along the road in that stretch, (other than the railroad tracks).  Still amazes me every time it happens.   It does happen very frequently in the west though.  If you're lookin for solitude - out west is the place.  Of course, that also means that you're gonna have to do some serious runnin to get groceries and such.  Don't forget that also means the hardware store, fast food, pizza, etc., etc., etc.  Lowes and Home Depot are not right around the corner, they could be up to 4 hours or more away, in one direction.  After you buy your goods, you have to drive home.  We were really surprised today with the scenery along I 25 headed north from Albuquerque.  There are a lot of nice areas with actual trees, mountains, fields and such.  Most of it is either used as cattle ranch - or seemingly not at all.  Didn't look like they were farming it at all, from planting crops and such.  Driving was fairly nice today - high temps were probably about 90 or so with low humidity.  Some of northern New Mexico looked remarkably like some of Penna.  However, much of it is like 6000 feet above sea level.  Probably will get chilly during the winter - I'm being kind here - it is probably  **** cold (you fill in the blanks).  It was a nice drive and we stopped at a Wal Mart for the night - hence the last picture that I posted.  We are about 20 miles inside of the Colorado / New Mexico line along I 25.  It is now 9:17 in the evening here, and there are now 6 of us rv'ers here including our vehicle.  Thank God for Wal Mart.  I've uploaded a bunch of pictures that should keep everyone busy looking at them for a while.  Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as we enjoy taking them.  In all honesty, they really don't do justice to the actual scenery and landscape.  Oh well, it's the best we can do to share where we have been.  Takes quite a while to resize the pictures and get the web pages set up for viewing.  Also gives me an excuse to use the computer.  Anyhow, I think I will end for tonight.  Later.......
